Inactivity and nothingness continued however right through the vast majority of the 20th century before Ledaig’s previous owners, Burn Stewart Distillers came to the fore and purchased the Mull distillery. Distilled using the same pot stills as the classic unpeated Tobermory expression, just with peated barley instead, the whisky boasts plumes of rich, earthy, almost medicinal smoke, with underlying fresh fruit and crushed spice notes. So when we created our bottles we wanted to design something that felt like a decanter - meant to be passed around a group of friends, new and old, as they enjoy sharing a dram together.

Ledaig was in fact the original name for the distillery, when it was founded in the Ledaig area of Mull by John Sinclair. Using peated barley from the Port Ellen maltings (around 37 ppm if you're interested) this is a bold and punchy whisky that belies it's light and delicate appearance. Our bottles come in two sizes: 700ml, which is our standard for our main releases; and for some of our expressions, 100ml minis. Made with heavily peated barley before being matured in ex-bourbon casks, and finished in hand-selected Spanish Rioja casks, this single malt contains powerful flavours of smoke, spice, grape and sweet berries, with a lingering saltiness.I dont want to say I am disappointed with this whisky, but it has now definitely less smoke and it is coloured.

When it reopened in 1878, the Ledaig deeds and ownership were passed from pillar to post before closing for a second time in 1930, as there was a drop in the demand for whisky due to prohibition in the United States.Palate: Tantalisingly sweet, medicinal flavours infused with enticing sparks of spicy pepper and dried fruit with rich peaty smoke and a velvety vanilla and malty creaminess. This heavily peated single malt from the Tobermory distillery has been finished in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks.

Learn more about our distillery, meet the team and taste our favourite whiskies and gins on one of our tasting experiences. It lingers off into some chocolate covered liqueur sweets, a hint of liquorice and a dry mouthfeel at the end. This outstanding malt will put a smile on the face of every peat lover and its origin may also surprise you… By using this.Maritime and smoky, this rivals some of the Islay drams for power, and the 10 year old balances the intensity of youth with rounded, well-aged spirit. This 19 Year Old Ledaig from the Isle of Mull’s Tobermory distillery is the nineteenth batch, a release of just 475 bottles were produced from this outrun. This is a vintage, 17 year Ledaig that has been matured in a combination of American Oak and Moscatel wine casks. Ledaig Single Malt Scotch Whisky is produced at the Tobermory Distillery, the only distillery on the picturesque Hebridean Isle of Mull.

Driven by the variation in whisky and bitten by ‘the bug’ he was unable to resist taking his incessant geeking-out to friends and family. Believed to have been laden with jewels, we have finished our smoky Ledaig signature expression in hand selected Rioja casks in honour of the Spanish treasure buried deep off our shoreline.Joining our award winning Tobermory 12 year old, our 21 year old has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks, with notes of cherry wood, brown sugar and caramelised pineapples. Ledaig is a single malt Scotch peated whisky produced on the Isle of Mull at the Tobermory distillery.
